The Essex County Utilities Authority will host its spring Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection on Saturday, May 2, “right next door” in Cedar Grove. This is a convenient location for Montclair residents.
The easy drive-in and drop-off collection takes place from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (sharp), at 125 Fairview Avenue (next to the Old Hospital Center), in Cedar Grove.
The event is free for Essex County residents only (proof of residency may be required). Commercial and large quantity users may not drop-off any items. No early arrivals are accepted, and it is a rain-or-shine event.
oil-based paints and stains – paint thinners and solvents – aerosol spray paint cans – rechargeable batteries, and car batteries – kerosene – pesticides and herbicides – mercury-containing products, such as thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent light bulbs (including compact fluorescent lights) and ballasts – driveway sealer –household cleaning fluids – automotive fluids, including antifreeze, steering fluids, motor oil, and gasoline – fire extinguishers (household type only) – chemistry sets – pool chemicals – propane tanks (barbecue type only) – photographic chemicals
Latex paint – standard household (alkaline) batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V) – empty containers – unlabeled or unidentifiable materials – asbestos – explosives – munitions – ordnance or highly reactive materials – commercial or industrial waste – regulated medical waste or infectious waste.
