Lenape Trail Walk, Wednesday, August 9th at 6:30pm
Enjoy a 1.7 mile walk along part of the Lenape Trail, a 32-mile urban trail in Essex County. We will follow the yellow blazes to discover how the Lenape Trail connects 4 Montclair parks: Brookdale, Yantacaw, Tuers, and Bonsal Preserve. We will learn about native and non-native trees and plants, the Lenape settlers in Brookdale Park, the Dutch origins of Upper Montclair (Speertown), the original site of the Upper Montclair Golf Club, and see where farms (with houses still standing) were located along Alexander Avenue that fed New York City residents in the late 19th century. We will end at an 1845 dairy farm, aka Applegate’s, where ice cream awaits!
The starting point is Brookdale Park – Enter the Park from Bellevue Avenue. Go south down the park road and park in the first parking lot on the left – near the soccer fields & the bleachers. The walk will begin at the northern end of the parking lot. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook.
