Green Film Series: Landfill Harmonic
In celebration of Earth Day this month, Montclair’s office of Environmental Affairs and Community Green present Landfill Harmonic, the next free movie in their Green Film Series, on Thursday, April 20, 6:30 p.m., at the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue. All events at the library are free.
This compelling documentary follows the ingenuity and shining talent of the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group of young people who play instruments made entirely out of garbage.
When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. The movie follows the troupe from landfill to sold-out concerts, even through natural disasters.
Favio Chavez, their music director, must find a way to keep the orchestra intact and provide hope for their town. The film is a testimony to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit. Bring the family, a friend, or your favorite young musician to this uplifting film and take part in our open discussion afterwards.
